About
Hi and welcome,
My name is Amy, I'm a qualified counsellor working in the Stockport area. My previous experience before becoming a counsellor was working with children in private day nurseries and primary schools. I have also worked in the care sector as a domiciliary carer and in Sheltered housing schemes. After a short time volunteering with Stockport Mind and The Richmond Fellowship I decided I wanted to become a counsellor! I worked as a counsellor for Lifeline Stockport working on the recovery side of drug, alcohol and addiction service. I also worked as a counsellor for Beechwood Cancer Centre located in Bridgehall, working with carers and bereaved family members. I have worked with a variety of issues and difficulties, anxiety, depression, sexual abuse, grief and loss to name a few.
I work from my therapy room in Cheadle Hulme which is located in a quiet and private building. It's a short 5 minute walk from the train station and bus stops, there is also ample parking facilities should you come by car.
I am trained to work using an integrative approach: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Transactional Analysis and Person-Centred Therapy. However, I recognise that every person is an individual with different experiences, therefore the counselling approach can be adapted to meet each individual needs. I continuously ensure to provide a safe, trusting and confidential space whilst working ethically in a secure and non-judgemental environment. The aim of my therapeutic work with you is to support and to explore, reconnect, strengthen and heal yourself at your own pace, in a safe and trusting environment.
I have regular supervision and I am a registered counsellor with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I'm fully insured and adhere to their code of ethics and guidelines.I currently lecture Counselling Concepts Level 2 and Counselling Skills Level 3 at Stockport College. I'm extremely passionate about this role, passing my skills, knowledge and expertise on to potential future counsellors!
I have a variety of experience in areas such as:
